Corvette Z06, ZR1 on the Chopping Block?

Rumor has it that the Corvette Z06 and ZR1 will be axed following the 2010 model year.

Word through the grapevine is that GM, having taken billions in government bailout money, is feeling the pressure to reprioritize its development expenditures. Translation: fuel-efficient small cars and high-volume models are in; mega-horse sports machines, not so much.

Base Corvette engines, meanwhile, will reportedly be downsized to 5.3 liters, in an attempt to improve fuel economy and help bring Chevy into line with tightening CAFE standards. Output will almost certainly suffer.

Also said to be on the chopping block is the V-8 Camaro, which may expire along with the uplevel Vettes at the end of '10.
