A new racing category for Corvettes will be included in the 2009 BFGoodrich Long Distance Championship. The Corvettes will race at the Nurburgring in a category called the Corvette Competition Cup.  The Cup will feature 2009 Corvette C6 and they will join other competitors at the Nurburgring racetrack.

The specially designed Corvettes for this series will be named Corvette Competition R. Their 6.2 L LS3 V8 engines provide a maximum of 500hp/368Kw and max. 600 Nm of torque. The North loop (Nordschleife) combined with the Grand Prix track will host this Cup series on ten Saturdays. Nine 4-hour races and one 6-hour race will be included in the 2009 schedule.

Each Corvette will be equipped with a sequential racing gearbox and a system that allows full throttle shifts. This system will allow drivers to change gears at full throttle without causing engine damage. They will be equipped with a custom racing exhaust system so drivers and racing fans can hear the distinctive Corvette V8 sound. Additional enhancements include a motorsport specific aerodynamic package with fixed adjustable front splitter and rear wing. These Corvette sporting attributes will pay tribute to the brands racing heritage. The Corvette Competition Cup will be a cost-effective racing alternative in the Gran Turismo category. The Corvette Competition R offers lots of racing fun that includes reliable and proven racing technology components.

Every Corvette Competition R will be double rated: Each race will include a ranking in the Competition Cup Class B and a ranking in the class SP8 in the BFGoodrich Long Distance Championship. Each Corvette will be allowed a maximum of 3 drivers per event. The class will be rated under the point system of the VLN organization. The participants will not only participate in a series of exciting races, but they will also be eligible for a number of attractive prizes after their performance is evaluated at the end of the season.

A Corvette Competition Cup hospitality center for all events will serve as a meeting place and information point for each participant and it will provide food and drinks.
