Paul Stebbe, Program Manager of the Chevy Cobalt and HHR SS program, was excited to talk to us about the new GM Reconfigurable Performance Display. Along with Tom Utter, Senior Project Engineer, GM Performance Division, both men gave VETTE magazine the details of the new multi-guage LCD screen that is offered as RPO Code UAF in the 2009 Chevy Cobalt SS and 2009 Chevy HHR SS.

This LCD screen unit offers "what we feel is over $1200 worth of gauges for a bang-for-the-buck $295," Stebbe told us.

Utter added, "Our goal with this product was to provide the customer with as much information on vehicle performance as we possibly could. When we started out, we took a look at what was already available on our vehicle serial data bus and actually added some enhancements to that."

It offers:

Engine Boost

Air-Fuel ratio

Cam phaser angles

Spark advance/Spark retard

Engine torque and power

Engine coolant temp

Inlet Air temp

Fuel Pressure

Barometer readout

Outside temp

Battery voltage

Vehicle stability active indicator

Vehicle traction control indicator

Launch mode indicator

Competitive mode indicator

Tire pressure monitoring

Shift lights

Speedometer

Lateral acceleration

The way the trend is looking, we speculate the GM Reconfigurable Display may be brought to other GM architectures beyond the Ecotec engine, such as the LS-platform, meaning a future generation of this amazing new GM option could be considered as a possible option in an upcoming Corvette.
