Most cars guys are into more than cars. The ones I'm friends with and know are also into airplanes too. Well, the folks at Motorbooks sent us a non-automotive sample that most guys are sure to get a kick out of!
The great people at Motorbooks sent us this selection, The American Aircraft Factory in WWII. Outside of their extensive automotive offerings, Motorbooks (and sister company Zenith Press) offer a wide array of aviation and history titles.
This book offers some of the best of both! I mean it, this book plain out rocks! Seeing pictures of cool planes like A-26s, B-29s, B-17s, B-24s, P-51s, and more being built at massive produciton facilities all over America during the war is like crack to an addict, at least for me! What's really cool is some of the photos in this book are original color photos, fairly rare for the time (color photography really didn't take off in America until after WWII, after the allies captured the AGFA photolabs in Germany and discovered how far advanced their color film technology was), and the usual collction of spectacular black and white photos.
I highly recommend buying this book! I'm serious! For $40 (available through the Motorbooks website, www.motorbooks.com) you get what's at least a great coffee table book, but is really a great time machine into the mechanical past that gave us the cars we love today!
