Ron Fellows, Corvette Racing's most famous driver, will partner Leighton Reese in the No. 06 Banner Engineering Pontiac GXP.R in round three of the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Cask No. 16 Mexico City 250.
Fellows is a three time American Le Mans Series GT1 champion, has two 24 Hours of Le Mans class wins, 19 Trans-Am wins and five NASCAR victories. Fellows has previous experience in the Grand-Am GT category having driven the Pontiac GTO.R at Mid-Ohio in 2006. The sports car veteran will be stepping into the Banner Pontiac that finished third in the last race at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
“I haven’t tested the GXP.R, but I drove the GTO.R at Mid-Ohio a few years ago with Paul [Edwards] and it was a lot of fun,” Fellows said. “We had that race covered and then a suspension problem forced us to DNF. There are some similarities between the GTO.R and the GXP.R I’ll be driving in Mexico City. They’re racing on a different tire now, but it’s a front engine car, built by GM Racing and Pratt & Miller, so I’m sure it will be easy to adapt to and lots of fun!”
